چکیده

A receiver-extension strategy is presented as an alternative to recently promoted source-extension strategies, in the framework of high-resolution seismic imaging by full-waveform inversion (FWI). This directly applicable time-domain FWI, and, unlike methods, it incurs negligible extra computational cost. After connections between different strategies are reviewed, method introduced and analyzed for single-arrival data. The results a misfit function convex with respect velocity model this context. then applied three exploration-scale synthetic case studies representative geologic environments, based on Marmousi model, BP 2004 salt Valhall model. In all cases, makes possible start FWI crude initial models reconstruct meaningful subsurface models. good performance method, even considering inaccurate amplitude prediction due noise, imperfect modeling, source wavelet estimation, bodes well field data applications.

Discretized Adjoint State Time and Frequency Domain Full Waveform Inversion: A Comparative Study

This study derives the discretized adjoint states full waveform inversion (FWI) in both time and frequency domains based on the Lagrange multiplier method. To achieve this, we applied adjoint state inversion on the discretized wave equation in both time domain and frequency domain. Besides, in this article, we introduce reliability tests to show that the inversion is performing as it should be ...

3D acoustic frequency-domain full-waveform inversion

We present one of the first attempt at implementing a massively parallel frequency-domain full-waveform inversion algorithm for imaging 3D acoustic media. The inverse method is based on a classic steepest-descent algorithm. The algorithm was designed so that one or several frequencies are inverted at a time. Wave propagation modeling, a key component of the inversion algorithm, is performed wit...

A global optimizing approach for waveform inversion of receiver functions

A global optimizing approach is developed and implemented to retrieve one-dimensional crustal structure by waveform inversion of teleseismic receiver functions. The global optimization for the inversion is performed using a Differential Evolution (DE) algorithm. This modeling approach allows the user to perturb, within a preset range of reasonable bounds, multiple parameters such as Vp, Vp/Vs, ...

A projected Hessian for full waveform inversion

A Hessian matrix in full waveform inversion (FWI) is difficult to compute directly because of high computational cost and an especially large memory requirement. Therefore, Newton-like methods are rarely feasible in realistic largesize FWI problems. We modify the BFGS method to use a projected Hessian matrix that reduces both the computational cost and memory required, thereby making a quasiNew...

Theoretical background for continental- and global-scale full-waveform inversion in the time–frequency domain

S U M M A R Y We propose a new approach to full seismic waveform inversion on continental and global scales. This is based on the time–frequency transform of both data and synthetic seismograms with the use of timeand frequency-dependent phase and envelope misfits. These misfits allow us to provide a complete quantification of the differences between data and synthetics while separating phase a...
